What is an AMHSW?
An Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) is a highly trained allied health professional recognised by Medicare to provide evidence-based therapy for a range of mental health concerns.
AMHSWs work from a holistic, person-in-environment perspective, recognising that emotional wellbeing is influenced by life experiences, relationships, health, and broader social factors. Therapy may include counselling, emotional support, practical strategies, and advocacy, tailored to each individual’s needs and goals.
Clients can access Medicare rebates for sessions with an AMHSW when referred by a GP under a Mental Health Treatment Plan.
